- Approximately 200,000 arrests are made for DUI offenses every year in California, according to the Department of Motor Vehicles. In 2007, more than 203,000 DUI arrests were made in the state. 6,264 of these were for felony DUI and 197,602 were for misdemeanor DUI.
- The DMV also reports that approximately 75-80% of drivers charged with DUI are convicted. 75% were convicted in 2007.

According to statistics presented by AVOID, a program administered by the California Office of Traffic Safety, there were 3,106 DUI arrests made from August 20th through September 8th, 2010 alone. This time period was specifically targeted due to the Labor Day holiday. Many law enforcement agencies put out more patrol cars and are particularly on the lookout for drunk driving on holidays throughout the year.

According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) approximately 32% of auto accident fatalities involved at least one driver who had an unlawful blood alcohol concentration of .08% or greater.
- California had the highest number of traffic fatalities in 2008, with 3,434. Of these, 30% (1,029) involved a driver with a blood alcohol concentration of .08% or greater. 20% (683) involved a driver with a blood alcohol concentration of .15% or greater.
